Last weekend the recently formed Alum Rock Community Forum
joined with local residents in Anthony Road and local councillor Ansar Ali Khan
to clear up some of the litter which as anyone who lives in, or travels
through, Alum Rock knows is a major blight on the area.
In about an hour six rubbish bags were filled (the yellow bags in the picture above, for later collection by the City Council) and several
larger piles of rotting rubbish, mattresses and at least one dumped suitcase
were photographed for reporting to the Council.
As with the previous initiative in Bennetts Road the clear
up showed just how much work is needed to make the area clean and safe for all.
Future projects will be reported on the Alum Rock Community Forum Facebook page.
These local residents deserve encouragement and support. The
amount of rubbish casually dumped in Alum Rock and the wider Hodge Hill district is
unacceptable. Things will only change if local residents and businesses change
how they act and take pride in the area.
